Meet our teamSome commonly Asked Questions
Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that specialises in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dental and facial irregularities. Braces, Invisalign® Clear Aligners and other appliances/devices are used to make these corrections by moving teeth and bones.
Most of our orthodontic appliances are designed to apply light pressure to each tooth, slowly guiding them into a more optimal position. Fixed braces require occasional adjustment, whereas Invisalign® Clear Aligners are replaced every 1-2 weeks with an updated tray designed to fit your mouth.
Part of the orthodontic consultation process is making sure that any problems can be investigated and subsequently cared for. During your first consultation, we’ll take panoramic radiographs, skull or facial x-rays and intra-oral or mini x-rays of your teeth. This is a comfortable experience and will help your Specialist Orthodontist customise a treatment plan to your needs. X-rays can also help to determine whether it is necessary to have teeth removed, or where over-crowding may be impacting your smile.
Orthodontic care is for everyone! Or, at least, most people with a dental imperfection. It is a myth that having treatment is only for children and young people. More and more adults are embracing orthodontics as a way to improve their smiles. This can be simply for the cosmetic reason of wanting a great grin, or because of ongoing orthodontic problems such as a poor bite or crowded teeth.
